Recent statistics about the rank distribution in Marvel Rivals on PC have surfaced on social media, sparking both interest and concern among the gaming community. One of the critical aspects to focus on is the distribution of players in the Bronze tier, particularly in Bronze 3. In Marvel Rivals, reaching level 10 automatically places you in Bronze 3, after which you must engage in ranked matches to climb the ranks.
In typical competitive games, advancing from Bronze 3 to Bronze 2 is designed to be straightforward. Developers often aim for a rank distribution that follows a Gaussian curve, or bell curve, where the majority of players are situated around the middle ranks, such as Gold. This design encourages players to move towards the center, with wins providing more ranking points than losses, effectively "pulling" them up the ranks.
However, the data for Marvel Rivals paints a different picture. There are four times as many players in Bronze 3 compared to Bronze 2, and the overall rank distribution deviates significantly from the expected Gaussian curve. This anomaly suggests a lack of engagement with the ranking system among players. The reasons behind this could vary widely, but it's a potentially troubling sign for NetEase, the game's developer. A disengaged player base might indicate underlying issues with the game's competitive structure or overall appeal.
