Civilization 7 Patch 1.0.1 Addresses Some of the Negative Feedback From Advanced Access

by Stella Feb 26,2025

Firaxis, the developer behind Civilization 7, has just released patch 1.0.1, timed to coincide with the game's full launch following a period of early access. This early access period garnered a "mixed" user review rating on Steam.

Firaxis is actively addressing player concerns, primarily focusing on the user interface, limited map variety, and the perceived absence of several key features expected by long-time fans.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, in an interview with IGN prior to the release of their third-quarter financial results, acknowledged the negative feedback from both press and players. However, he expressed confidence that the established Civilization fanbase would grow to appreciate the game with increased playtime, describing the early performance as "very encouraging."

With Civilization 7 now available to all players, Firaxis has released Patch 2 (PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck only). This is the first of several planned patches designed to incorporate player feedback gathered during the early access phase, as stated in a Steam post. The complete patch notes are detailed below.

It's important to note that cross-play multiplayer has been temporarily disabled to streamline PC updates. This means PC patches may be released at a different rate than console patches. This change does not affect console-to-console cross-play or PC-to-PC multiplayer.

Civilization 7 1.0.1 Patch 2 - February 10, 2025

Gameplay (Windows PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck):

  • Resolved an issue causing shortened Ages in Epic and Marathon speed games.
  • City-States will now transition to Friendly Independent Powers during Age transitions instead of disappearing. They will also begin with more units in the Exploration and Modern Ages.
  • Addressed inconsistencies in Naval Combat:
    • Naval units will now use correct Combat Strength values when attacking other naval units.
    • Naval units will receive reciprocal damage correctly after attacking.
    • Naval units will move to the attacked tile more consistently after victory.
  • Completing a Legacy Path's final milestone no longer grants Age Progress in the Modern Age, allowing more time for victory completion.
  • Towns will automatically resume growing if their chosen Focus becomes ineligible (e.g., population decrease).
  • The Future Civic is now repeatable in all Ages. The cost of Future Tech and Future Civics will increase more significantly with each repetition.
  • Fixed an issue where excessive Growth bonuses resulted in negative Food needed for the next growth event.
  • Improved Rail Networks, enhancing reliability for Settlements connecting to the network over water via Ports. This applies if the Capital has a Port or a rail connection to a settlement with a Port.
  • Enhanced Loyalty Crisis management in the Antiquity Age: Villas can now be purchased in towns during this crisis.

AI (Windows PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck):

  • AI will less frequently offer high-value Cities during Peace Deals.
  • In the Modern Age, AI will declare war less frequently at the age's start.
  • In the Modern Age, AI will consider Ideology more heavily before declaring war or offering peace.
  • Other Leaders will have a reduced desire for war if neither party possesses an Ideology.
  • Other Leaders will have an increased desire for war against players with opposing Ideologies.
  • Other Leaders will have a decreased desire for peace with players holding opposing Ideologies.

Camera (Windows PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck):

  • Fixed an issue at native resolutions where the camera would focus on the map's lower end when clicking the minimap.

UI (Windows PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck):

  • Replaced the Simplified Chinese font with the Civilization VI font; further improvements are planned for future patches.
  • Resolved an issue preventing the Settlement menu from opening when clicking a non-player's Settlement Banner.
  • Fixed an issue where yield icons didn't appear on buildings after town-to-city conversion.
  • Fixed an issue causing text truncation on the Global Yields Breakdown screen.
  • Added notifications for completed Espionage actions.
  • City projects are no longer incorrectly displayed as purchasable.
  • Your current religion is now displayed first in the belief picker tabs.
  • Fixed an issue where a District's health bar persisted after full healing.
  • Fixed an issue where Leaders lacked portraits after relationship changes during gameplay.
  • Improved alignment of leader names and portraits on the Age Summary (Victories Rankings Overview screen).
  • Fixed an issue where the background color remained default despite user changes in the Player Customize tab.
  • Improved spacing between Civ descriptions, unique units, and building icons on the loading screen.

(Note on Cross-Play Multiplayer): To expedite PC updates, cross-play between PC and console players is temporarily disabled. This does not affect console-to-console or PC-to-PC multiplayer.
