Capcom Adjusts PC Specs for 'Monster Hunter Wilds'

by Madison Feb 23,2025

With Monster Hunter Wilds' February 28th launch approaching, Capcom is actively investigating ways to reduce the game's recommended GPU requirements. This follows concerns raised by players during the open beta.

The official German Monster Hunter X/Twitter account confirmed Capcom is exploring options, including the development of a dedicated PC benchmarking tool. Currently, the recommended specs for 30 FPS at 1080p include an Nvidia GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT, requiring 720p internal resolution and upscaling via DLSS or FSR at the lowest settings.

For 60 FPS at 1080p with upscaling and frame generation technologies, Capcom suggests an RTX 2070 Super, RTX 4060, or AMD RX 6700 XT. However, only the RTX 4060 natively supports Nvidia Frame Generation; the others rely on FSR 3, which exhibited ghosting issues in the previous beta. This reliance on frame generation at 60 FPS might be less than optimal, as Digital Foundry suggests a 40 FPS baseline for third-person games to maintain responsiveness. Lower frame rates with upscaling can introduce noticeable latency.

The open beta highlighted performance struggles even for mid-range cards like the RTX 3060, particularly a low-LOD bug affecting texture detail. Monster Hunter Wilds utilizes Capcom's RE Engine, previously seen in titles like Resident Evil 7, Devil May Cry 5, and Street Fighter 6, which generally boasts strong performance. However, the engine's performance in larger open-world games with numerous NPCs and enemies, such as the anticipated Dragon's Dogma 2, has raised concerns. Capcom's efforts to lower the GPU requirements are crucial for the game's PC reception, given the upcoming beta and release date.
