Exciting new details about the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed Shadows have surfaced online, following an unexpected leak of an artbook titled "The Art of Assassin's Creed Shadows." This artbook, which reportedly contains hundreds of pages of concept art, quotes, and development information, initially appeared on a website known for hosting hentai, before spreading rapidly across the internet. The leak was first spotted on r/GamingLeaksAndRumours, and although the gallery was quickly removed from the original site, it has since been archived on various file-sharing platforms and galleries. IGN has reached out to Ubisoft for an official statement on the matter.
The leaked artbook showcases intriguing elements such as concepts for historical figures, detailed cityscapes, and an array of weapons, hinting at potential plot spoilers for Assassin's Creed Shadows. While the authenticity of these leaks cannot be fully verified until the game's release, the images appear genuine and offer a tantalizing glimpse into the upcoming title.
The leak comes just before the scheduled launch of Assassin's Creed Shadows on March 20, 2025, following a delay that pushed the game's release from 2024 into February of 2025. At a recent preview event, IGN had the opportunity to speak with the game's director, Charles Benoit, who shed light on the reasons behind the delay. Benoit explained that the extra time was primarily used for polishing the game, with minor adjustments made to the progression system to enhance engagement and balance. However, the most significant focus was on refining the parkour system to accommodate the unique architectural challenges of Feudal Japan.
"The Japanese architecture, the roofs [are] super complex," Benoit noted. "Probably the most complex thing that I ever worked with if we compared to Odyssey and Syndicate. We needed specific codes and specific animations to support something super fluid, changing the transition of the parkour to make it even more fluid. So that's one of the specific feedback that we heard that we wanted to address, and it really improved since the last few months."
