On Bloodborne’s 10th Birthday, and With Neither a Sequel nor a Next-Gen Update in Sight, Fans Once Again Organize a Return to Yharnam

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the iconic PlayStation 4 game, *Bloodborne*. Fans around the globe are commemorating this milestone by organizing yet another "Return to Yharnam" community event, a testament to the enduring love for FromSoftware’s masterpiece that launched on March 24, 2015. The game not only solidified FromSoftware's reputation as a leading developer but also garnered widespread critical and commercial success, sparking hopes for a sequel akin to the Dark Souls series.

However, a decade later, fans are still left wondering why Sony has not released a current-gen remaster, a sequel, or even a next-gen update that would bring the game to a smooth 60fps. The lack of any follow-up has been a source of frustration and bewilderment within the gaming community.

Earlier this year, former Sony executive Shuhei Yoshida offered his personal theory on the matter during an interview with Kinda Funny Games. Yoshida, who emphasized that this was his own speculation and not based on insider knowledge, suggested that FromSoftware's president Hidetaka Miyazaki might be the reason behind the lack of updates. Yoshida believes that Miyazaki, who has been incredibly busy with successful projects like *Dark Souls 3*, *Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice*, and the blockbuster *Elden Ring*, might be reluctant to let anyone else touch *Bloodborne*, despite recognizing the potential benefits of updating the game for modern hardware.

Miyazaki has often sidestepped questions about *Bloodborne* in interviews, citing that FromSoftware does not own the IP. However, he has acknowledged that the game would benefit from being released on more modern platforms. In the absence of official updates, the fan community has taken matters into their own hands, with modders attempting to enhance the *Bloodborne* experience on PS4. Yet, Sony has responded to these efforts with takedown notices, as seen with the actions against well-known modders Lance McDonald and Lilith Walther.

Recently, the use of PS4 emulators like ShadPS4 has allowed fans to experience something close to a remaster on PC, with *Bloodborne* now playable at 60fps. This breakthrough, highlighted by Digital Foundry, may have prompted a more aggressive stance from Sony, though the company has not officially commented on the matter.

As *Bloodborne* turns 10, the "Return to Yharnam" event invites fans to start anew, summon co-operators and invaders, and leave in-game messages to signify their participation in this community-driven celebration. While the future of official *Bloodborne* content remains uncertain, the passion and dedication of its fanbase continue to keep the spirit of Yharnam alive.
