Elden Ring: Nightreign will omit the "leave a message" feature found in previous FromSoftware titles. Project director Junya Ishizaki explained this decision in a recent interview, citing the game's shorter play sessions. Nightreign matches last approximately forty minutes, leaving insufficient time for players to write or read messages.
"Given the roughly forty-minute session length, there isn't enough time to send or read messages, so we removed the feature," Ishizaki stated.
This choice is noteworthy, as player messaging has been a significant aspect of FromSoftware's games, enhancing player interaction and enjoyment. However, the developers deemed the feature unsuitable for Nightreign's design.
To maintain the integrity of the original Elden Ring, Nightreign features a separate narrative. It offers a fresh adventure with unique challenges and encounters, while preserving the atmosphere and complexity of the Elden Ring world.
