Wolcen Studio has announced Project Pantheon, a free-to-play action RPG incorporating extraction shooter mechanics. A closed alpha test begins January 25th in Europe, expanding to North America on February 1st.
Game director Andrei Cirkulete describes the game as a blend of "the tension and risk-reward of an extraction shooter with the battle dynamics of a combat RPG," hinting at influences from titles like Diablo and Escape from Tarkov. Player feedback is highly valued during this early stage.
Players assume the role of a Death's messenger, battling AI and other players across diverse maps. Successful extractions preserve hard-earned trophies, while failed attempts result in complete loot loss.
Customization is key, with options to build a personal base, personalize gear, and experiment with various playstyles. The game's world draws inspiration from global mythologies, with player trading forming the core of its economy.
The initial adventure unfolds in "Destiny's Edge," a region inspired by Scandinavian folklore. Despite being in alpha, Wolcen Studio plans to actively collaborate with the community to shape Project Pantheon's development.
