Deadlock 2025: Fewer, Bigger Updates from Valve
Valve has announced a shift in its update strategy for Deadlock in 2025, prioritizing larger, less frequent patches over the consistent smaller updates seen in 2024. This decision, explained as necessary to improve the development process, comes despite the game's successful launch and steady growth.
Deadlock, Valve's free-to-play MOBA, launched earlier in 2024 after early gameplay leaks. The unique steampunk-inspired third-person shooter has quickly gained traction, even competing with titles like the popular Marvel Rivals. However, the previous two-week update cycle proved challenging for internal iteration and external player adaptation.
According to a statement from Valve developer Yoshi on the official Deadlock Discord, the new approach will see major patches released less frequently, but with significantly more substantial content. Hotfixes will still address urgent issues as needed. This change was likely met with mixed reactions from fans accustomed to the regular content updates.
The recent winter update, a departure from the usual balance-focused patches, showcased this shift. It introduced unique gameplay changes, hinting at the potential for future limited-time events and modes. This suggests a move towards larger, event-driven updates.
Deadlock currently boasts 22 playable characters and an additional 8 in Hero Labs mode. Its innovative anti-cheat measures and diverse character roster have contributed to its growing popularity. While an official release date remains unannounced, 2025 promises more substantial updates and potentially more news about the game's future.
