On February 7, 2025, inZOI game director Hyungjun Kim shared exciting news on Discord about a Karma system that will transform deceased Zois into ghosts based on their accumulated Karma points.

Despite inZOI's focus on realism, Kim is introducing a paranormal twist with the Karma system and ghosts. He explained, "If a Zoi dies with enough karma points, they move on to the afterlife, but those who don’t make the cut have to remain as ghosts until they restore sufficient karma points." The exact methods to restore these points remain a mystery for now.

Kim stressed the importance of balancing the ghost feature, stating, "We want to keep the playability of ghosts fairly limited so it doesn’t overshadow the main gameplay, but we also want to make sure the experience is engaging enough when it does happen." In the Early Access version, interactions with ghost Zois will be limited to special conversations at specific times and under certain conditions.

Kim also expressed his vision for the game's future, saying, "While we’re committed to refining the realistic elements of inZOI first, I’d love to explore more fantasy-driven elements in the future. Occasionally stepping away from the game's native, ultra-realistic setting could add an extra layer of fun to our simulation of this vast and complex concept we call life!"

In August 2024, inZOI's publisher, Krafton Inc., collaborated with content creators to showcase the game through sponsored videos. One such partner, MadMorph, offered a sneak peek at inZOI’s Karma system.

At the fifteen-minute mark of MadMorph’s video, he demonstrated a feature called Karma Interactions. This option presents a variety of actions that can either boost or diminish a Zoi's Karma points. For example, MadMorph's character engaged in a mischievous act by secretly farting on another Zoi's face, which elicited a reaction from the NPC. Positive actions like "Throw Away Trash" or "Like a Friend’s post" were also available, though not demonstrated in the video.

While the Early Access version of inZOI, set to launch on Steam on March 28, 2025, will focus on gameplay with living Zois, the Karma Interactions feature promises to play a more significant role in future updates. Fans eager to explore this innovative game mechanic will have to wait just under six weeks to dive into the Early Access experience.
