Rebel Wolves studio has unveiled details about their upcoming vampire RPG, highlighting the central role of the protagonist's duality. Game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz describes the character as a modern-day Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, a concept largely unexplored in video games. This duality, he believes, will introduce a compelling layer of surrealism, offering players a unique gaming experience.
The team is particularly interested in exploring player engagement with a protagonist who's not always a supernatural being, spending time as an ordinary human. This contrast between the character's two states is a key design element, but requires careful consideration. Many RPG mechanics are so ingrained in player expectations that their absence could cause confusion.
Tomaszkiewicz acknowledges the inherent tension between innovation and established conventions in RPG development. The decision to alter or maintain standard mechanics is crucial, as even minor changes can generate significant player debate. He cites the mixed reception to Kingdom Come: Deliverance’s schnapps-dependent save system as a prime example of this balancing act.
The game's gameplay premiere is anticipated for Summer 2025.
