Scalebound, once a highly anticipated Xbox One exclusive, embodied ambitious action game design. Its blend of dynamic combat, captivating music, and the innovative dragon companion system generated significant buzz. However, despite its 2014 announcement, development ceased in 2017, leaving fans disappointed.
Recently, a video surfaced on Clovers Inc.'s X account, showing Hideki Kamiya and his team revisiting archived Scalebound gameplay. Kamiya expressed nostalgic pride in the project, despite its cancellation. He further fueled speculation with a tweet directed at Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, simply stating: "Come on, Phil, let's do this!"
This isn't a new sentiment from Kamiya; he previously expressed interest in reviving Scalebound in early 2022. While rumors of a potential reboot circulated actively in early 2023, no official confirmation from Microsoft followed. When questioned by Game Watch, Phil Spencer offered only a cryptic smile and the statement, "I have nothing to add at this time."
Even with renewed interest, a swift Scalebound return remains unlikely. Kamiya and Clovers Inc. are currently focused on a new Okami installment. Any potential revival would depend on Xbox's approval and could only commence after the completion of their current projects. However, the persistent discussion and Kamiya's continued passion offer a glimmer of hope for a future release.
