NPIXEL has announced the closure of Gran Saga, ending its brief international run. The game's servers will officially shut down on April 30th, 2025, with in-app purchases (IAPs) and new downloads already disabled.
Launched in Japan in 2021 to considerable success, the global version debuted only in November 2024, lasting less than six months. The closure is attributed to financial instability and the inability to sustain the service in the fiercely competitive global mobile gaming market. While initially impressive, Gran Saga struggled to gain traction against established titles with large, dedicated player bases.
This shutdown reflects a growing trend of gacha RPG closures. The market's saturation makes it challenging for new games to thrive unless they offer truly innovative gameplay. Gran Saga's Japanese success didn't translate internationally, leading to its premature end.
Players who made recent in-app purchases and wish to request a refund have until May 30th to submit an inquiry. However, refunds may not be possible for already-consumed purchases or due to other store-related circumstances.
This closure marks a difficult farewell for Gran Saga players. For those seeking alternative MMO experiences, check out our list of the best MMOs currently available on Android.
