Switch 2 Launch Titles Predicted

by Camila Mar 13,2025

With the Nintendo Switch 2 on the horizon, speculation about its launch lineup is rife. While no official titles have been announced, we can make some educated guesses, combining likely Nintendo staples with anticipated releases from beloved indie developers. The following is our hopeful – and perhaps slightly optimistic – prediction for day-one titles.

While it's unlikely all these games will launch alongside the Switch 2, even a partial realization would be exciting. Here's our wish list:

Mario Kart 9

Over a decade since Mario Kart 8's release, its enduring popularity (as the best-selling game on both Wii U and Switch) makes a sequel a near-certainty. While a "new twist" was reported in 2022, official confirmation remains elusive. We hope this "twist" revitalizes the series, building on its legacy while introducing innovative gameplay for another decade of success. A Switch 2 launch title would be a powerful statement.

New 3D Super Mario

The Switch's relatively limited 3D Mario offerings (only Super Mario Odyssey and a Super Mario 3D World port) warrant a new entry. A new 3D platformer, brimming with inventive level design and collectables, would be a fantastic addition, potentially even alongside a new Mario Kart. Seven years since Odyssey, it's high time for another 3D plumbing adventure.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

The long-awaited Metroid Prime 4, now titled Beyond, has had a complex development journey. Its recent gameplay reveal showcased stunning visuals, prompting speculation about its potential platform. A Switch 2 launch would be fitting, finally ending the long wait for this highly anticipated title.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom Enhanced

Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are Switch titans. Backward compatibility is hoped for, ideally with enhanced performance modes leveraging the Switch 2's increased power. Experiencing Hyrule in crisp 4K with smooth framerates would be a dream come true.

Ring Fit Adventure 2

Nintendo often includes quirky titles in its launch lineups. The success of Ring Fit Adventure (over 15 million copies sold) makes a sequel a strong possibility. A Switch 2 launch could showcase new control schemes and innovative fitness features.

Resident Evil 4 Remake

While the original Switch lacked the power for Capcom's impressive Resident Evil 4 remake, the Switch 2 might be capable. A launch-day release would be a bold statement, showcasing the console's capabilities and offering a poetic return of a classic horror title to a Nintendo console.

Doom: The Dark Ages

A somewhat ambitious prediction, but given the success of Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal on Switch, and Microsoft's broader platform support, it's not entirely outlandish. Further information at the Xbox Developer Direct could reveal a launch date aligning with the Switch 2.

The Haunted Chocolatier

Following the immense success of Stardew Valley, ConcernedApe's Haunted Chocolatier is highly anticipated. A Switch 2 launch would be a perfect fit, offering a relaxing yet engaging experience ideal for handheld play. A launch year release seems more realistic than day one.

Earthblade

Earthblade, the successor to the critically acclaimed Celeste, is another indie title with potential for a Switch 2 launch. While updates have been infrequent, a 2025 release (as hinted by the developer) could align with the new console's debut.
