Warner Bros. Games announced on January 31, 2025, that MultiVersus will conclude its run on May 30, 2025, following the completion of its fifth and final season. This news was shared via the game's official Twitter (X) account and a blog post on the MultiVersus website. Player First Games and Warner Bros. stated that Season 5 will be the game's last content update.

Season 5: A Final Farewell (February 4th - May 30th, 2025)

Season 5, launching February 4th, 2025, will introduce two new playable characters: Aquaman (DC) and Lola Bunny (Looney Tunes). All Season 5 content, including these characters, will be earnable through gameplay. After Season 5 ends, MultiVersus will be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store. No official reason for the shutdown has been provided.

While online services cease, MultiVersus will offer an offline mode. Players can download the latest version of the game between February 4th (9 AM PST) and May 30th (9 AM PDT) to enable this. This will allow solo play against AI or local multiplayer with up to three friends. The game will automatically create a local save file linked to the player's account (PlayStation Network, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store), preserving earned and purchased content.

Real-money transactions for Gleamium (the in-game premium currency) ended on January 31, 2025. Any remaining Gleamium can be used until Season 5 concludes.

A Look Back at MultiVersus' Journey

MultiVersus launched its public beta in July 2022, quickly gaining popularity as a free-to-play fighting game similar to Super Smash Bros. but with a 2v2 team-based focus. The game underwent a relaunch in May 2024, incorporating new features like additional characters, rollback netcode, a new PvE mode, and revised currencies.

Despite these improvements, the game faced challenges including technical issues, frequent disconnections, and criticism regarding its microtransactions. Reports indicated a significant drop in player count (70% decrease on PS4/PS5) in July 2024.

MultiVersus will shut down on May 30th at 9 AM PDT, leaving behind a roster of 35 playable characters. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed gratitude for the community's support. The game remains available for download on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC until May 30th, 2025.
