New Enhancements Coming for Reinhardt, Winston in Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2 is set to receive significant buffs for two classic tank heroes: Reinhardt and Winston. Lead gameplay designer Alec Dawson recently hinted at these upcoming changes in an interview with content creator Spilo. The planned improvements aim to address the underperformance of these original Overwatch tanks in the sequel's one-tank meta.

Reinhardt's Charge is slated for a damage increase, potentially reaching 300, resulting in one-hit kills against most non-tank heroes. Winston will see enhancements to both his Tesla Cannon alt-fire and Primal Rage ultimate ability. While specifics regarding the ultimate are still under wraps, a reduction in the alt-fire's charge time is highly probable.

These adjustments reflect a broader effort by the Overwatch 2 development team to re-evaluate hero balance. Dawson acknowledged past design missteps, particularly the creation of overly versatile characters, and emphasized a commitment to creating a more equitable competitive landscape.

The timing of these buffs remains uncertain, but a mid-season patch within the next few weeks, perhaps in mid-July, seems likely, given the recent start of Season 11.

Beyond Reinhardt and Winston, Dawson also touched on adjustments for Mauga, the newest tank, focusing on his Cardiac Overdrive ability and encouraging more aggressive playstyles. He also teased the upcoming Space Ranger support hero, highlighting their high mobility and a unique mechanic shared with only one other character. Further details on these heroes and their changes are expected soon.
