How to Play Okey Game

The offline Okey game is traditionally played with 4 players. A cue stick is used to help sort the tiles. The game pieces come in four colors: Red, Black, Yellow, and Blue, numbered from 1 to 13. Additionally, there are two fake Okey tiles, making a total of 106 tiles in the game.

At the start, all tiles are shuffled and automatically distributed among the players. The player next to the dealer receives 15 tiles, while the others get 14. Each player then arranges their tiles according to the cues, grouping them into pairs or sets.

Tiles not distributed to players are left in the middle of the table. The open numbered tile in the center is the indicator stone, and the tile matching its color and number is the Okey Stone. The Okey Stone can substitute for any tile in the game. Finishing the game with an Okey tile doubles the points earned.

Normal Tile Arrangement

Players must divide their tiles into at least three pairs. There are two ways to form these pairs:

  • By placing tiles of the same color in a sequence.
  • By placing the same number of tiles in each color side by side.

Pair Formation

To end the game, a player must arrange all tiles into pairs and, upon having seven pairs, drag the last remaining tile to the center of the table.

Indicator Rule

At the start of a new game, the next player shows the indicator tile. If it's an Okey colored tile, points are deducted accordingly; otherwise, 2 points are deducted.

End of Okey Game

The game concludes with various point deductions based on the final move:

  • If the last tile played is not an Okey, it's a normal finish. Deductions are 4 points for an Okey colored finish and 2 points otherwise.
  • Finishing with seven pairs results in a 4-point deduction from other players.
  • Completing the game with all tiles of the same color in order from 1 to 13 results in the other players' points dropping to zero.
  • If all tiles are the same color but in an irregular order, an 8-point deduction applies to other players.
