Skull and Bones Adds Land Combat This Fall: Ubisoft Reveals Year 2 Plans

by Sebastian Apr 27,2025

Ubisoft is setting sail to make Skull and Bones Year 2 the most thrilling yet for pirate multiplayer enthusiasts, thanks to a treasure trove of new content. From fresh gameplay modes and ships to the introduction of a Kraken and the long-awaited land combat feature, fans have plenty to look forward to.

During a special Year 2 showcase that premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled its ambitious plans for the next year of updates. The highlight of the presentation was Season 3: Guts and Glory, set to launch this fall, which will finally introduce the much-anticipated land combat. Players will be able to step away from the sea and engage in swordfights and gun battles on land as part of the Rogue Warlord additions. This feature will allow adventurers to explore sandy beaches and damp caves to rescue skilled crewmembers known as Officers. A teaser video gave a glimpse of what to expect, but full details will be revealed later this year.

While land combat is the crown jewel of Skull and Bones Year 2, Ubisoft has more in store to keep players engaged throughout 2025. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos kicks off today, April 15, introducing a loot-enhancing item ascension feature, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Following in summer 2025, Season 2: Oaths of War will feature Megaforts and the imposing Frigate large ships. Finally, Season 4: Eye of the Beast, scheduled for this winter, will bring the legendary Kraken, the Hunter’s Guild, and the powerful Corvette large ship into play.

If the prospect of these updates excites you, you'll be thrilled to know that Skull and Bones is hosting a free weekend from April 17 to 21. This is your chance to dive into the pirate PvP action and even purchase the game at a discounted price (details forthcoming).

Skull and Bones set sail on February 16, 2024, available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S. While Ubisoft has been tight-lipped about official sales figures, they did mention achieving "record player engagement" shortly after its launch. Interestingly, the release of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% surge in players for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
