Marvel Rivals News: Wrongful Bans Reversed

by David Jan 21,2025

NetEase's Marvel Rivals mistakenly bans innocent players. The developer, NetEase, issued an apology for wrongly banning a significant number of players who were not cheating. The affected players primarily used compatibility layers on non-Windows systems, including macOS, Linux, and Steam Deck.

The mass ban, intended to target cheaters, incorrectly flagged users playing on compatibility software like Proton (for SteamOS), which is known to trigger some anti-cheat systems. NetEase has since reversed the bans and apologized for the inconvenience. Players experiencing future issues with cheating are encouraged to report it, and those wrongly banned can appeal through in-game support or Discord.

Separately, the game's competitive scene is calling for character bans to be implemented across all ranks, not just Diamond and above. Players argue that this feature, which allows removing specific characters from selection, would improve gameplay balance and provide a more level playing field for all skill levels. The lack of character bans in lower ranks is frustrating players who feel disadvantaged against opponents with overpowered characters. NetEase has yet to publicly address this concern.
