Love and Deepspace is enhancing its security in China with a new face verification system, launching in April 2025. This might sound intense, but it's primarily aimed at preventing underage players from accessing the 18+ rated game in China.
Why the Face Verification?
This measure aligns with China's existing real-name authentication for online games and its broader efforts to combat gaming addiction among minors, as mandated by the Minors’ Protection Law. China has implemented various restrictions, including playtime limits (90 minutes on weekdays, three hours on weekends) and mandatory "Healthy Gaming Advice" prompts. Facial recognition is already commonplace in China for security in various sectors.
Global Impact?
For players outside China, this change is unlikely to affect gameplay. Since Love and Deepspace maintains a 12+ rating in most global app stores, there are no plans to implement face verification internationally.
