In the gripping side quest "Heart of Valor" from *Avowed*, players face a pivotal decision about the Leviathan Heart that impacts Keipo, Chiko, and the entire storyline. As the quest unfolds, you learn that Keipo has the Dreamscourge and his story about the Leviathan is partially fabricated to conceal the truth about his partner Umpara's death. Your choices in this quest can lead to different outcomes, with significant consequences on the rewards you receive and the story's direction.

It is highly recommended not to give Keipo the Leviathan Heart at the end of *Avowed's* "Heart of Valor" side quest. By withholding the heart, you can secure all the available loot without compromising the hope of Thirdborn by revealing Keipo's secret. To achieve this, you must find and read Keipo's Weathered Journal, located by activating a button on the curved stone structure near the Leviathan Heart's location.

Let's explore the rewards tied to each decision path before delving into the specific dialogue choices required to maximize your loot.

Reward for Giving Keipo the Leviathan Heart

If you decide to honor Keipo's dying wish by giving him the Leviathan Heart, he will reward you with Umpara's Spear, a memento from his fallen partner. This Exceptional Quality +1/3 weapon boasts the following stats and abilities:

Physical Damage88

Reward for Not Giving Keipo the Leviathan Heart

Opting not to give Keipo the Leviathan Heart and making the correct dialogue choices with Chiko afterwards will grant you the Stormdancer armor set. Additionally, you can keep the Leviathan Heart as a Unique Trinket, providing a +20% Attack Damage boost at the expense of slowly draining your health. The Stormdancer armor set includes:

To obtain these armor pieces, select the following dialogue options when Chiko says, "I’m sorry my uncle is sick…":

  • "Uh…about that. He’s not just sick. It’s the Dreamscourge."
  • "He wanted to die before he turned. He was trying to keep you safe."
  • "There *is* one way. We just stopped him from doing it."

Choosing the wrong option in the third choice will upset Chiko, causing them to leave and denying you the Stormdancer armor set.

To secure every piece of gear available at the end of *Avowed's* Heart of Valor side quest—the Leviathan Heart, Umpara’s Spear, and the complete Stormdancer armor set—without exposing Keipo’s secret to Thirdborn, follow these specific dialogue choices in the given order when speaking to Keipo and Chiko after finding Keipo’s Weathered Journal:

Talking to Keipo

  • "We need to talk. Now."
  • "Come clean. Chiko told me you want to end your life."
  • "We wouldn’t be having this conversation if you had the Dreamscourge."
  • "I’m sorry. I can’t give you the heart."
  • "I respect your choice. But I can’t be a part of it."
  • "Listen. I…I know what happened to Umpara."
  • "And? Why didn’t you tell the truth?"
  • "That’s why you really trapped the ruins. So no one would find out."
  • "No. The truth would do more harm than good."

Note that discussing Umpara's fate first will prevent you from receiving Umpara’s Spear. Only by addressing it last can you secure both the spear and the other rewards.

Talking to Chiko

  • "Don’t worry. It’s right here with me."
  • "He wanted to take his own life with it. Chiko stepped in to prevent that."
  • "Let me hold onto it. I’ll take it far away and keep it safe."
  • "[Lie] No, that was all."
  • "Uh…about that. He’s not just sick. It’s the Dreamscourge."
  • "He wanted to die before he turned. He was trying to keep you safe."
  • "There *is* one way. We just stopped him from doing it."

If you give Keipo the Leviathan Heart and receive Umpara’s Spear, you can still obtain the Stormdancer armor set from Chiko by revealing Keipo's Dreamscourge affliction and using the final two dialogue choices mentioned above. However, this will expose Keipo's secret about Umpara to Tira Nui Hajime and Thirdborn, affecting the settlement's morale and causing you to lose the Leviathan Heart.

By following our recommended dialogue choices precisely, you'll secure the Stormdancer armor set, Umpara's Spear, the Leviathan Heart as a trinket, and maintain everyone's happiness in this challenging scenario—without having to sacrifice one reward for another.
