Fans of the gritty vigilante world of Marvel are in for a treat as Jon Bernthal's iconic portrayal of The Punisher is set to return in a thrilling Marvel special following the premiere of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1. This standalone special, reminiscent of the Guardians of the Galaxy format, promises to deliver a powerful narrative, blending high-octane action with deep emotional resonance. Bernthal, not only starring but also co-writing the project alongside We Own This City director Reinaldo Marcus Green, aims to bring a raw and compelling story to life.
"It's like a shotgun blast of a story, but also has all the pathos and emotion that you want out of a Frank Castle story," Brad Winderbaum, the head of Marvel Television, enthused to Entertainment Weekly. "It's so exciting."

This news arrives amid Marvel Television's ambitious plans to revive the Defenders saga on Disney+. The street-level superhero team, comprising Matt Murdock's Daredevil, Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones, Mike Colter's Luke Cage, and Finn Jones' Iron Fist, made their mark on Netflix before their stories were integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) on Disney+. The return of these characters to the screen is a testament to Marvel's commitment to expanding its cinematic universe.
“It’s certainly exciting to be able to play in that sandbox,” Winderbaum shared with Entertainment Weekly. “Obviously, we don’t have the unlimited storytelling resources like a comic book, [where] if you can draw it, you can do it. We’re dealing with actors and time and the massive scale of production in order to build a cinematic universe, especially on television. But I can just say that all those variables taken into account, it is certainly something that is creatively extremely exciting and that we are very much exploring.”
Daredevil: Born Again, set to premiere on March 4, picks up the narrative thread from the Netflix series, featuring familiar faces like Jon Bernthal's Punisher and Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin. This season introduces a new adversary, the artistically inclined serial killer known as Muse, promising a fresh and thrilling challenge for Daredevil and his allies.
