In *Monster Hunter Wilds*, while the thrill of hunting the largest and most ferocious beasts is a core part of the game, there's a unique achievement that requires you to seek out the smallest of creatures. Here's your guide to unlocking the 'I Caught a Shooting Star' trophy/achievement.

The 'I Caught a Shooting Star!' hidden trophy/achievement stands out for its simplicity and elusiveness. It's easy to overlook if you're not specifically looking for it.

To unlock this achievement, you must capture a unique endemic life in the Windward Plains known as the Sandstar. This small creature, resembling a desert mouse with a long tail and shimmering fur, can only be found at night in a specific part of the region.

Since the Windward Plains are typically explored during the day in the game's story, you'll need to wait until nightfall. Here are two ways to pass the time:

  • Fast Travel: Available early in the game once you unlock various fast travel points in the Windward Plains. Use your interactive map to fast travel between points until nightfall arrives.
  • Rest: This option becomes available after completing Chapter 3 and unlocking high-rank content. Use your Guild Points at a base or pop-up camp to rest and choose the time of day (Morning, Daytime, Evening, or Nighttime) and environmental conditions (No Change, Fallow, Plenty, or Inclemency).

The Sandstar is not only tiny but also incredibly fast, even when you're sprinting on your Seikret. To increase your chances of capturing it, consider gathering Screamer Pods from Baunos, small winged monsters with red bodies found in the Windward Plains. Baunos roam in groups around Area 11 and Area 13, scavenging carcasses. Defeating a few will yield Screamer Pods, which aren't mandatory but will greatly simplify your task.

Once it's night in the Windward Plains, head to the midpoint between Area 11 and Area 13. Keep your eyes peeled for the Sandstar. When you spot it, chase it at full speed and use your Screamer Pods to stun it as you get close. Immediately switch to your Capture Net (used for fishing as well) and throw it at the stunned Sandstar to capture it. Upon successful capture, the 'I Caught a Shooting Star!' trophy/achievement will unlock, and you'll receive the Ribbon Dream: Amber nameplate for your Hunter Profile.
