Ghoul Update for Fallout 76: Key Details Revealed

by Ryan Apr 14,2025

Fallout 76 Season 20, titled "The Ghoul Within," introduces an exciting new feature that allows players to transform into Ghouls and explore a radiation-infested wasteland like never before. This update, released on March 18, brings a host of ghoul-related features, mechanics, and new cosmetic options to enhance your C.A.M.P.

Unleash the Ghoul Within

To become a Ghoul, players must complete the "Leap of Faith" questline, which takes them to a new section of the Savage Divide. Here, they'll meet unique characters who aid in their transformation. As a Ghoul, players gain access to exclusive abilities such as Glow and Feral, along with 30 new Ghoul-exclusive Perks, or "Gherks."

The Feral ability replaces traditional hunger and thirst mechanics with a Feral meter. Depending on the meter's level, players receive various boosts. At 0%, players gain a staggering +150% Melee Damage, but at a cost: -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, -300% Hip-fire Gun Accuracy & V.A.T.S. Accuracy. This can drastically alter gameplay, offering a high-risk, high-reward experience.

The Glow ability allows players to consume radiation, making them immune to diseases and mutations, and giving them a literal glow. This ability not only increases maximum health and heals damage but also contributes to unlocking Gherks.

There are 28 perks to choose from, including two new legendary perks designed specifically for Ghouls. Note that perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance are unavailable to Ghouls as these stats no longer apply.

Navigating the wasteland as a Ghoul becomes easier with the new abilities and perks. However, certain factions like the Brotherhood of Steel may become hostile, potentially blocking some questlines. To overcome this, players can use disguises provided by a new NPC named Jaye, enabling them to access otherwise restricted content.

If the Ghoul lifestyle doesn't suit you, players can revert to human form via the Character Screen. Note that this is a one-time reversal, and to become a Ghoul again, players must purchase the Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms.

New and returning players can now accelerate their journey with the Level 50 Character Boost, available for 1500 Atoms. This boost equips players with various perks and enhancements, allowing immediate access to multiplayer features like Daily Ops, Public Events, and select story content.

The Season 20 update also includes numerous bug fixes, balance tweaks, accessibility improvements, combat adjustments, and weapon damage changes. Bethesda has also announced the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update, set for April 29, which promises even more content.

Since its rocky launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has made significant strides, earning a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam with 76% positive reviews. The game is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, continuing to grow and evolve with each update.
