After his daughter JoJo was diagnosed with type-one diabetes, Glassenberg and his wife faced the daunting task of managing her condition, which involved a delicate balance of insulin injections and meticulous monitoring of her diet. This experience is the heart of the game, which reflects the constant vigilance required in managing diabetes.
Despite its vibrant graphics, Level One is designed to be a demanding game where even a brief lapse in concentration can result in a game over. This challenging gameplay serves as a metaphor for the relentless attention needed in caring for someone with type-one diabetes.
Raising Awareness
The launch of Level One is supported by the diabetes awareness charity Breakthrough T1D Play, founded by parents in the gaming industry who care for children with type-one diabetes. With over nine million people worldwide living with this condition and 500,000 new diagnoses each week, the mission to raise awareness is crucial.
I believe Level One will significantly contribute to raising awareness about type-one diabetes. Given the mobile gaming community's appetite for challenging games, this puzzler has the potential to both entertain and educate.
