The Blood of Dawnwalker: A Dark Fantasy RPG Unveiled
Rebel Wolves, a studio comprised of former CD Projekt Red developers, recently showcased their upcoming open-world dark fantasy action-RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, at a game reveal event. This narrative-driven experience promises a unique blend of action and story.
Meet Coen, the Dawnwalker
Players take on the role of Coen, a Dawnwalker—a being existing between humanity and vampirism—in the fictional 14th-century European setting of Vale Sangora. Unlike typical protagonists, Coen is portrayed as emotionally complex and vulnerable. His journey begins with a confrontation against Brencis, an ancient vampire who has plunged Vale Sangora into darkness. Coen's mission: save his family within a 30-day/night timeframe. While the game operates on a modified time scale, offering extensive playtime.
The reveal trailer hints at Coen's superhuman abilities, including enhanced speed and magical prowess. While many questions remain, Rebel Wolves addressed some common queries on their Discord server.
Dawnwalkers are not simply hybrids; they represent a distinct entity. The game's magic system, unlike typical high-fantasy fare, focuses on the occult: rituals, amulets, and summonings, rather than flashy spells.
A Narrative Sandbox with Choices
The Blood of Dawnwalker emphasizes player agency. While Coen's overarching goal is to save his family, the path to achieving it is highly non-linear, with player choices shaping the narrative and world. This single-player experience prioritizes narrative depth over multiplayer or co-op modes. However, the journey won't be solitary; romanceable characters from various races (uriashi, kobolds, and potentially werewolves) will populate Coen's world.
The game is currently slated for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, though a specific release date has yet to be announced.
