Unlocking Multiple Pets
Initially, Stardew Valley limited players to a single pet. However, the 1.6 update changed this, allowing multiple pet adoptions. To unlock this feature, you must first maximize your existing pet's friendship level.
Daily care is key: fill your pet's water bowl (except on rainy/snowy days) and pet them daily (indicated by a heart above their head). Monitor their friendship using the "Animals" tab in the pause menu.
Once friendship is maxed, Marnie will email you, opening the possibility of adopting additional pets. If you skipped the initial pet adoption, the email arrives at the start of Year 2.
Adopting Multiple Pets
After receiving Marnie's email, visit her ranch (9 AM - 4 PM, closed Mondays and Tuesdays). Choose the "Adopt Pets" option.
Twelve pet licenses are available: five cat variations, five dog variations, and two turtle types. Each license has a cost:
Pet License | Cost |
---|---|
Brown Cat | 40,000g |
Grey Cat | 40,000g |
Orange Cat | 40,000g |
White Cat | 40,000g |
Black Cat | 40,000g |
Brown Dog (Blue Collar) | 40,000g |
Brown Dog (Shepherd) | 40,000g |
Brown Dog (Red Collar) | 40,000g |
Black & White Dog (Red Bandana) | 40,000g |
Dark Brown Dog | 40,000g |
Green Turtle | 60,000g |
Purple Turtle | 500,000g |
Obtaining Pet Supplies
Before or after adoption, commission Pet Bowls from Robin (5,000g and 25 Hardwood each). These are essential for maintaining pet friendship and preventing them from running away.
Marnie sells optional decorative items like doghouses and cat trees, which don't affect friendship.
