Sid Meier's Civilization VII ushers in a new era for the iconic turn-based strategy series, available across major gaming platforms. This guide clarifies its cross-play and cross-progression features.
Cross-Play:
Civilization VII supports cross-play, but with limitations. An active 2K account is required, linked to all desired platforms. Cross-play functions seamlessly across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, macOS, and Linux, offering full map and player count options.
However, Nintendo Switch players experience restrictions. The Switch version cannot handle standard or larger map sizes. Player limits in online cross-play are four players in Antiquity and Exploration Ages, and six in the Modern Age. Therefore, if a Switch player joins a cross-play game, these limitations apply to all participants.
Cross-Progression:
Unlike the complexities of cross-play, cross-progression in Civilization VII is straightforward. With an active 2K account, progress is synchronized across all linked platforms. This means your game saves are consistent whether you're playing on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, or other compatible devices. This feature, absent in Civilization VI at launch, is a welcome addition in Civilization VII, reflecting modern gaming practices.
Civilization VII launches February 11th.
