Ryan Gosling in Star Wars Film by Deadpool & Wolverine Director

by Lucas Apr 18,2025

Exciting news for Star Wars fans! Shawn Levy, the acclaimed director of Deadpool & Wolverine, is reportedly in negotiations to bring Ryan Gosling into the galaxy far, far away. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Levy's Star Wars project, which he has been developing since 2022, is gaining momentum with Gosling potentially starring in the film. The script, crafted by Jonathan Tropper, who previously collaborated with Levy on This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project, remains tightly under wraps. What we do know is that the movie will be a standalone story, separate from the iconic Skywalker Saga, and set in an undisclosed era of the Star Wars universe.

The involvement of Ryan Gosling seems to be accelerating the project. Originally, Levy was scheduled to direct a boy band movie with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. However, if Gosling officially signs on, the Star Wars film could leapfrog that project and become Levy's next venture, with production slated to start in the fall.

Star Wars is currently navigating a period of transition. After the cancellation of The Acolyte, Disney Plus premiered its latest series, Skeleton Crew, which recently concluded its run. On the film front, Dave Filoni's The Mandalorian and Grogu has wrapped production and is set to hit theaters on May 22, 2026. Additionally, a new trilogy focusing on Daisy Ridley's character Rey from the sequel trilogy is in the works.

While no release date has been announced for Levy's Star Wars film, the inclusion of Ryan Gosling certainly adds a thrilling dimension to the franchise's future. For a comprehensive look at what's on the horizon for the Star Wars universe, be sure to check out our preview of Star Wars in 2025.
