Hashino, when discussing future projects, expressed a strong interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.
Currently, there are no concrete plans to create a Metaphor: ReFantazio sequel. However, Hashino emphasized his commitment to completing the current project, revealing its original conception as a third major JRPG franchise alongside Persona and Shin Megami Tensei. His ambition is for it to become a flagship Atlus title.
While a direct sequel is unlikely, the team is actively developing their next project. An anime adaptation of Metaphor: ReFantazio, however, is under consideration. The game itself has been a remarkable success for Atlus, achieving the highest concurrent player count for a platform launch to date.
Metaphor: ReFantazio boasts a peak concurrent player count exceeding 85,961, significantly surpassing Persona 5 Royal (35,474) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002). The game is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
