A Serious Side to Majima
While known for its comedic elements and Majima's reputation as a hilarious character, RGG Studio director Masayoshi Yokoyama reveals a "more serious" side to Majima, particularly at the story's outset. Producer Ryosuke Horii emphasizes the core "manly drama," focusing on Majima's passionate pursuit of his goals and the bonds he forges throughout his over-the-top adventure. Horii states, "The goofing off isn't the main point – there's a manly drama at the center of things. Of course, there are some crazy parts, but overall, it's a straightforward tale about a passionate man."
Horii highlights Majima's unique qualities, distinct from series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu, explaining the decision to push the game's realism further than previous entries. The aim was to leverage Majima's personality for a diverse and engaging action experience. Striking a balance between the pirate theme, Majima's character, and the overall Like a Dragon feel presented a significant challenge for the development team. The result promises a captivating blend of realism and outlandish elements, avoiding a predictable or dull experience.
Majima's Maji Festival
To celebrate the upcoming release, RGG Studio is hosting Majima's Maji Festival across six Japanese cities. The tour, which began in Sapporo on December 1st, 2024, concludes in Nagoya (January 18th) and Tokyo (January 25th).
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, starring the iconic "Mad Dog of Shimano," Goro Majima, offers a unique blend of action-packed combat, thrilling naval battles, vibrant characters, and a compelling narrative. This modern-day pirate adventure launches on February 21st for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
