Experience Will's Journey in Manga Form
Fans can now enjoy the first chapter of the Metaphor: ReFantazio manga, a collaboration between Atlus and Shueisha, illustrated by Yōichi Amano (known for Akaboshi: Ibun Suikoden and Stealth Symphony). Available for free on the MANGA Plus website, the manga offers a fresh perspective on the game's story.
The manga takes significant creative liberties, altering the initial storyline. Key differences include the omission of a starting area from the game, the introduction of new events, and a restructuring of existing ones, notably how the protagonist meets his allies. Importantly, the manga canonically confirms the protagonist's name as Will, aligning with the game's default name.
The next chapter is scheduled for release on February 19th, simultaneously with the Japanese release.
Critical Acclaim for Metaphor: ReFantazio
Developed by Studio Zero, led by Katsura Hashino (director and producer of the Persona series), Metaphor: ReFantazio follows protagonist Will and his fairy companion, Gallica, as they embark on a mission to save the prince of Euchronia. The assassination of the king throws the kingdom into turmoil, leading to a unique succession plan where the people choose the next leader. Will finds himself unexpectedly thrust into this pivotal role.
The game achieved phenomenal success, selling over one million copies worldwide on its launch day, becoming Atlus' fastest-selling title, surpassing even Persona 3: Reload. Its critical reception was overwhelmingly positive, earning numerous awards, including Best RPG, Best Art Direction, and Best Narrative at the 2024 Game Awards.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Xbox Series X|S.
