God of War Ragnarok's Steam Rating Controversy

God of War Ragnarok's Steam Launch Met with Mixed Reception Amidst PSN Requirement Backlash

The PC release of God of War Ragnarok on Steam has sparked controversy, resulting in a "Mixed" user review score. Many players are review-bombing the game due to Sony's controversial requirement to link a PlayStation Network (PSN) account. This mandatory PSN linking, announced prior to the PC launch, has left many fans frustrated. The game, released last week, currently holds a 6/10 rating on the platform.

While numerous negative reviews cite the PSN requirement as the primary reason for their low score, some players report successfully playing the game without linking an account. One user commented, "I understand the PSN frustration; it's annoying when single-player games force online features. But I played fine without logging in. It's a shame these reviews might deter others from an amazing game."

Another review highlights technical issues potentially linked to the PSN requirement: "The PSN requirement ruined the experience. The game got stuck on a black screen after login, and despite not playing, it registered 1 hour 40 minutes of playtime. Unbelievable!"

However, positive reviews also exist, praising the game's quality and attributing the negative scores solely to Sony's policy. One player stated, "The story is fantastic, as expected. The negative reviews are almost entirely about the PSN requirement. Sony needs to address this; otherwise, the PC port is excellent."

This situation mirrors the recent backlash against Sony's PSN requirement for Helldivers 2. Following significant criticism, Sony reversed its decision for that title. Whether Sony will respond similarly to the God of War Ragnarok situation remains to be seen.
