Nintendo Switch 2: Genki's CES Mockup Reveals Key Features

Genki, a prominent handheld gaming accessory developer, showcased a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key design features. This model, reportedly based on a black market acquisition, accurately reflects the console's dimensions and confirms several circulating rumors.

Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the Switch 2's larger size, approaching the dimensions of Valve's Steam Deck. A significant change is the adoption of magnetic Joy-Con controllers, specifically for the SL and SR buttons. These detach via a button on each Joy-Con, releasing a pin that disengages the magnetic connection. Despite this change, Tsai assures users the Joy-Con remain securely attached during gameplay.

Further details emerged regarding the Joy-Con's "mounting channel," which incorporates an optical sensor. This suggests potential functionality as a mouse, a theory supported by recently leaked Switch 2 images showing similar sensors.

While larger than its predecessor, the Switch 2 remains thin enough to physically fit within the existing Switch dock. However, structural differences prevent compatibility. The purpose of a newly added "C" button and a second USB-C port remains currently unknown.
