New Games and Sales Hit SwitchArcade!

by Nora Feb 02,2025

Hello fellow gamers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 29th, 2024! Today's update features a robust selection of new game releases, forming the core of this Thursday's column. We'll also explore a substantial list of new sales. Let's dive into the games!

Featured New Releases

Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club ($49.99)

The Famicom Detective Club returns after a lengthy hiatus with a new installment. This latest case stays true to the original games' style, both in its strengths and weaknesses. A fresh mystery awaits, presented similarly to the recent Switch remakes. Can you crack the case of the latest serial killings? My review is coming soon.

Gundam Breaker 4 ($59.99)

Mikhail's comprehensive review provides an in-depth look at the gameplay and Switch performance. In short, you build and battle Gunpla. While the Switch port naturally lags behind other versions in performance, it's still a satisfying experience. Check out Mikhail's excellent review for the full scoop.

Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn ($19.99)

Tengo Project continues its impressive streak of remakes and re-imaginings. Following successful revivals of Wild Guns Reloaded, The Ninja Saviors, and Pocky & Rocky, they now tackle an 8-bit classic. This iteration differs significantly from the original. If you crave classic-style action-platforming, this is a solid choice. My review drops early next week.

Valfaris: Mecha Therion ($19.99)

A Valfaris sequel, but with a twist. Forget the original's gameplay; this is a 2.5D side-scrolling shooter. While the genre shift surprised some, it's a worthwhile experience. My review is on its way.

Nour: Play With Your Food ($9.99)

I'll admit, I'm not entirely sure what this game entails. The food imagery is stunning, though. Perhaps it involves photography, secret-finding, or a unique blend of both? Mikhail might be the best person to investigate this further.

Monster Jam Showdown ($49.99)

If you're a fan of monster trucks, this game might be for you. It features both local and online multiplayer, along with a variety of game modes. Reception on other platforms has been mixed, but monster truck enthusiasts have limited options.

WitchSpring R ($39.99)

This appears to be a remake of the original WitchSpring, though I could be mistaken. The original was a mobile title often compared to the Atelier series. At this price point, it's a tougher sell, approaching the cost of a full-fledged Atelier game. However, it looks to be the best-looking WitchSpring yet.

Depths of Sanity ($19.99)

An underwater exploration game with a fantastical horror twist. You investigate the disappearance of your crew within a vast, dangerous underwater world. Combat is involved. Well-received on other platforms, it's likely to appeal to Switch fans of exploratory action games.

Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire ($19.99)

Voltaire, a vegan vampire, rebels against his bloodthirsty father. Gameplay involves farming and action as you fend off your father's attacks. While I'm currently fatigued by the genre, those with more enthusiasm for farming sims might enjoy this.

Marble Abduction! Patti Hattu ($11.79)

A marble roller game with seventy stages and eighty marbles to collect. Secret collectibles and special challenges add to the replayability. If you enjoy high-speed marble rolling, this offers a substantial amount of content.

Leo: The Firefighter Cat ($24.99)

A firefighting game aimed at a younger audience, featuring twenty missions. While other firefighting games on Switch lean towards realism, this offers a more kid-friendly experience.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage ($21.99)

A grotesque action game starring a hoverboarding cat. While the core gameplay is reportedly solid, the Switch version suffers from noticeable technical issues. Consider this if you're not overly sensitive to framerate problems.

Arcade Archives Finalizer Super Transformation ($7.99)

A 1985 Konami vertical shooter featuring a transforming robot protagonist. It's a charming, classic-style shooter reminiscent of the post-Xevious, pre-Tiger Heli era.

EGGCONSOLE Xanadu Scenario II PC-8801mkIISR ($6.49)

An early video game expansion pack, offering a new underworld to explore. Gameplay is similar to the first game, but with increased difficulty. Notable for featuring the debut work of legendary composer Yuzo Koshiro.

The Backrooms: Survival ($10.99)

A blend of horror, survival, and roguelite elements. Supports up to ten online players, which is the ideal way to experience the game. Solo play caters to a more niche audience due to its repetitive nature.

Can of Wormholes ($19.99)

A clever puzzle game where you, a sentient tin can, must deal with worms. One hundred handcrafted puzzles keep things fresh and engaging. A strong contender for puzzle game fans.

Ninja I & II ($9.99)

Two NES-style microgames focused on ninja-themed challenges. Features competitive local multiplayer or CPU opponents.

Dice Make 10! ($3.99)

A surprisingly fun puzzle game with two modes: falling blocks and a wood-block-style puzzle. The goal is to create rows or columns where dice faces add up to multiples of ten.
