Launching October 11, 2024

F-Zero Climax GBA ScreenshotNintendo's announcement today brings exciting news for racing game fans. F-Zero: GP Legend and the previously Japan-exclusive F-Zero Climax are hitting the Switch Online + Expansion Pack on October 11th.

The F-Zero series, a futuristic high-speed racing franchise, debuted in Japan over three decades ago (1990). Critically acclaimed, it's influenced other racing titles, notably SEGA's Daytona USA. Known for pushing the boundaries of console technology in its time, F-Zero games were renowned for their breakneck speed on SNES and other retro systems.

Like Mario Kart, F-Zero features intense racing, track obstacles, and competitive battles between racers' unique "F-Zero machines." The series' iconic protagonist, Captain Falcon, even stars in the Super Smash Bros. franchise.

F-Zero: GP Legend initially launched in Japan in 2003, followed by a global release in 2004. F-Zero Climax, released in Japan in 2004, remained region-locked until now, marking a 19-year wait for international players. This gap, according to F-Zero designer Takaya Imamura in a past interview, was partly due to the immense popularity of Nintendo's Mario Kart series.

This October 2024 update to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack grants subscribers access to both F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend. Get ready to compete in Grand Prix, story modes, and various time trials!
