New First-Party PlayStation Game Will Reportedly Be Inspired by Smash Bros

A PlayStation studio, newly formed from former Bungie employees, is developing a MOBA titled "Gummy Bears." Initially conceived at Bungie, this project, reportedly in development since at least 2020, has undergone a significant shift.

This MOBA, designed for a younger audience than Bungie's typical demographic, deviates from the studio's established style. Instead of traditional health bars, Gummy Bears utilizes a percentage-based damage system reminiscent of Super Smash Bros., where high damage results in characters being knocked off the map. The game will feature three character classes—Attack, Defense, and Support—and multiple game modes, all within a vibrant, "lo-fi" aesthetic.

The transition to a new PlayStation studio followed Bungie's 2023 layoffs and subsequent integration of employees into Sony Interactive Entertainment. While the exact release date is unknown, Gummy Bears is expected to be several years from launch. The game's unique features and target audience suggest a departure from Bungie's previous work, aiming to attract a new player base.
