Dragon Age: The Veilguard Gets Surprise Free Weapon DLC After Months Without an Update

by Violet Apr 26,2025

BioWare may have largely moved on from Dragon Age: The Veilguard, but that hasn't stopped the remaining team from surprising fans with a new DLC weapons pack. Dragon Age enthusiasts were taken aback when the RPG's Steam page was updated to include the Rook's Weapons Appearance Offer as free add-on content. This unexpected update comes after EA had indicated that Dragon Age: The Veilguard would not receive much future support. The fifth patch released in January focused primarily on fixing game-breaking bugs, making the addition of new content a welcome surprise, albeit modest in scope.

The Rook's Weapons Appearances bundle is exclusively available to current owners of the game and those who purchase it on PC before April 8, 2025. While there's no detailed description of what the bundle contains, players have discovered that it includes a set of Watchful skins accessible in their Rook's in-game room. It remains uncertain whether this offer will extend to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S versions of the game.

Despite the modest nature of the new content, fans have shown appreciation. One Steam review noted, "Even if these appearances aren't the most, uh, beautiful things ever, they do give spooky eldritch horror vibes!" A Redditor added, "It's cosmetic DLC, but it's essentially free DLC for a game that's practically no longer getting newer content. I'll live with that."

Dragon Age: The Veilguard received positive reviews upon its October launch but, according to EA, it failed to "resonate with a broad enough audience." In late January, lead members of the team announced they would be leaving BioWare, with many staff members either laid off or reassigned within the company. EA informed IGN that the studio was shifting to put its "full focus" on the next Mass Effect.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard was included in the PlayStation Plus March 2025 titles, just four months after its release. No further plans for its future have been announced.
