Death Note: Killer Within - Officially Rated
Bandai Namco: The Likely Publisher
Fans of the iconic Death Note manga are eagerly awaiting a new video game adaptation. The game, "Death Note: Killer Within," has been rated by Taiwan's digital game rating board for PS5 and PS4.
According to Gematsu, Bandai Namco – known for its video game adaptations of popular anime series like Dragon Ball and Naruto – is the anticipated publisher. While details are scarce, this rating suggests an official announcement is imminent.
This news follows trademark registrations for the game title by Shueisha (Death Note's publisher) in June across Europe, Japan, and the United States. Gematsu initially reported the game's title as a direct translation of the rating board's listing, "Death Note: Shadow Mission," but subsequent English searches on the website confirmed "Death Note: Killer Within" as the official English title. However, the listing may have since been removed.
A Look Back at Past Death Note Games
While gameplay and plot details are currently undisclosed, anticipation is high. Given the series' psychological themes, many expect a suspenseful experience mirroring the manga and anime. Whether the game will focus on Light Yagami and L's classic rivalry or introduce new characters and storylines remains a mystery.
The Death Note franchise has seen several game releases, beginning with 2007's Nintendo DS title, "Death Note: Kira Game." This point-and-click game allowed players to assume the roles of Kira or L, engaging in a battle of wits to uncover their opponent's identity. This was followed by "Death Note: Successor to L" and the spin-off "L the ProLogue to Death Note: Spiraling Trap." These games shared similar deduction-based, point-and-click mechanics.
These earlier games primarily targeted Japanese audiences with limited releases. "Killer Within," if released as expected, could mark the franchise's first significant global game launch.
