A fraudulent Baldur's Gate 3 mobile port has surfaced on the iOS App Store, prompting a warning for players. This deceptive app, masquerading as a legitimate mobile adaptation, is free initially but demands a hefty $29.99 monthly subscription fee. Crucially, there is no official mobile version of Baldur's Gate 3.
The fake app, titled "Baldurs Gate 3 - Mobile Turuk" and developed by "Dmytro Turuk," employs modified screenshots from the actual game, overlaying a fabricated mobile HUD to enhance its deceptive appearance. The absence of any mention of Larian Studios, the game's developer, or its Dungeons & Dragons origins, should serve as a significant red flag.
Data Theft Concerns:
While visually obvious to some, the app's free initial download may lure unsuspecting users. The subscription fee is revealed only after installation, but the app's terms of service reveal a concerning data collection policy, including the recording of users' IP addresses and potentially other sensitive information. This isn't the first instance of a Baldur's Gate 3 scam app, highlighting the ongoing need for vigilance.
Currently, a similar fraudulent app hasn't been identified on the Google Play Store. However, gamers on both iOS and Android should remain cautious of any app promising an official Baldur's Gate 3 mobile port, as Larian Studios hasn't announced any such plans. While a mobile port of Baldur's Gate 3 remains absent, earlier installments in the series are available on mobile platforms. Alternatively, players can access Baldur's Gate 3 through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
Anyone who inadvertently downloaded the fraudulent app should immediately uninstall it.
