VNeID: Vietnam's Electronic Identification and Authentication Application
The VNeID application, developed by the National Population Data Center under the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, leverages population data for identification and electronic authentication purposes. It serves individuals residing in or traveling through Vietnam.
Purpose and Benefits: VNeID is designed to replace traditional documents, facilitating digital citizenship, digital government, and digital society development. It allows citizens to submit medical and domestic travel declarations swiftly. Furthermore, it aids authorities in tracking secondary COVID-19 infections and promptly notifying the public.
Access and Permissions: By using VNeID, users grant the application access to the following functionalities:
- Internet Access: The application requires internet connectivity from the user's device.
- Camera Access: To scan the QR code on the Citizen ID (CCCD) card, which expedites the entry of basic citizen information and enables quick scanning at checkpoints for travel and medical declarations.
- Media Access: The app needs access to the device's photos, videos, audios, and files to store QR code images for verification at citizen checkpoints.
- Notification Permissions: The application is allowed to send notifications to the user's device.
Personal Information Collection: Users input their data, including medical and domestic travel information, either for themselves or on behalf of others with their explicit consent. The collected personal information includes: full name, phone number, citizen identification, gender, year of birth, permanent address, nationality, health status, departure and destination details, vehicle number plate, and any exposure to individuals with COVID-19. All data is submitted voluntarily through forms and collected with user permission.
Users are responsible for their actions and the accuracy of the information they provide.
Privacy and Copyright Protection: The National Population Data Center, Ministry of Public Security, securely stores and protects user data. This information is used solely for COVID-19 prevention and control, health protection, and disease prevention, and will not be used for commercial purposes or to infringe on personal privacy. Data may be shared with health authorities and other relevant agencies to enhance COVID-19 prevention efforts.
The application's developers do not collect or use user information for any purposes other than those specified. They will not disclose any information that could harm users or engage in any illegal activities that violate Vietnamese law or the application's policy.
- No Location Tracking: VNeID does not collect location data.
- Anonymity: Users interact within the community anonymously. Only competent authorities can access information about those infected or suspected of infection due to close contact with a COVID-19 case for contact tracing purposes.
