Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana presents players with numerous challenging boss battles, but their first encounter, against Dularn, the Creeping Shadow, often proves a significant hurdle. This initial boss fight represents a considerable difficulty spike, frequently requiring multiple attempts before players achieve victory. However, understanding Dularn's attack patterns makes this seemingly insurmountable challenge surprisingly manageable.
How to Beat Dularn in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana
The fight begins with Dularn encased in a protective spherical barrier, rendering him invulnerable to attacks. The initial phase focuses solely on survival, dodging Dularn's attacks until the barrier dissipates. Once the barrier drops, players have a brief window to inflict significant damage. Dularn's health varies based on the selected difficulty level. While players can temporarily retreat to regroup, defeating Dularn is mandatory to progress.
Avoid approaching Dularn while his barrier is active; contact inflicts damage. Attempting to attack during this phase will likely result in defeat.
Dularn's Sword Attacks
Dularn utilizes various sword attacks:
- Overhead Assault: Swords descend from above, striking directly at the player.
- X-Formation: Swords form an X-shape before homing in on the player.
- Linear Thrust: A straight line of swords charges towards the player.
These homing attacks can be challenging. While the barrier is up, circling Dularn provides space to dodge the first two sword attacks. However, depending on sword positioning, jumping is crucial for complete evasion. For the linear thrust, a well-timed jump is necessary to avoid damage.
Exploit the moments when Dularn's barrier falls to unleash a flurry of attacks. Each significant damage burst triggers Dularn's teleportation. Upon reappearing, maintain distance to avoid taking damage as he reforms his protective barrier.
Dularn's Wave Blasts
Dularn employs two projectile attacks: fireballs and an arching slash.
Fireballs
Dodge the fireballs by moving strategically between them or jumping over incoming projectiles. Combining movement and jumping maximizes evasion.
Arching Slash
This large blue slash is unavoidable without jumping. This attack often occurs near the end of Dularn's barrier downtime, signaling an opportunity to attack before it is deployed again.
Mastering Dularn's attack patterns is key to victory; grinding levels isn't necessary.
