Steam Deck Game Reviews & Impressions
NBA 2K25 Steam Deck Review
NBA 2K25 marks a significant milestone: the PC version finally mirrors the next-gen console experience. Officially optimized for Steam Deck (though not yet officially rated by Valve), it delivers a satisfying portable basketball experience. While not quite matching the console versions in load times, the 16:10 and 800p support, along with AMD FSR 2, DLSS, and XeSS options (though I found disabling upscaling improved clarity), makes for impressive visuals. Extensive graphics settings allow for fine-tuning, with a recommended 60fps cap at 60hz for optimal stability. Offline play is limited; MyCAREER and MyTEAM require online access, but Quick Play and Eras modes function offline.
The usual 2K microtransaction issues persist, impacting certain game modes. However, for pure basketball gameplay, this is a top-tier experience. The inclusion of ProPLAY technology and the WNBA debut on PC are major pluses. At $69.99, it's a premium price, but the enhanced features justify the cost for many.
NBA 2K25 Steam Deck review score: 4/5
Gimmick! 2 Steam Deck Impressions
(See Shaun's Switch review here). Unverified but runs flawlessly, even boasting Steam Deck and Linux fixes in its latest patch. Capped at 60fps (forcing 60hz on OLED screens is recommended), it supports 16:10 in menus, though gameplay remains 16:9. No graphical options, but its smooth performance suggests imminent Steam Deck Verification.
Arco Steam Deck Mini Review
Arco, a dynamic turn-based RPG, shines with its engaging combat system, compelling story, and impressive pixel art. Steam Deck Verified, it runs at a smooth 60fps (16:9 only), and includes a beta assist mode for skipping combat or enabling cheats. The option to skip the first act on replays is a welcome addition.
Arco Steam Deck review score: 5/5
Skull and Bones Steam Deck Mini Review
Recently added to Steam, Skull and Bones is rated "Playable" on Steam Deck. While the initial Ubisoft Connect login is clunky, gameplay is smooth at 30fps (16:10, 800p) with FSR 2 upscaling. Lowering settings improves performance. Early impressions are positive, but it's an online-only experience. A free trial is recommended before a full purchase.
Skull and Bones Steam Deck review score: TBA
ODDADA Steam Deck Review
ODDADA, a music-making experience, runs perfectly at 90fps with touch controls (no controller support yet). Simple graphics options are available, though the menu text is small. Despite the lack of controller support, its touch-friendly interface makes it a delightful creative tool.
ODDADA Steam Deck review score: 4.5/5
Star Trucker Steam Deck Mini Review
Star Trucker blends automobile simulation and space exploration. While not deeply engaging in either genre, it offers a unique experience. Runs well on Proton Experimental, with adjustable graphics settings (16:10 support included). Controls require some getting used to.
Star Trucker Steam Deck review score: 4/5
DATE A LIVE: Ren Dystopia Steam Deck Mini Review
A visual novel, DATE A LIVE: Ren Dystopia runs flawlessly on Steam Deck (720p, 16:9). Check system settings to ensure button configuration is correct. Recommended for fans of the series.
DATE A LIVE: Ren Dystopia Steam Deck Review Score: 4/5
Total War: PHARAOH DYNASTIES Steam Deck Review Impressions
A significantly enhanced re-release of Total War: Pharaoh, PHARAOH DYNASTIES is playable on Steam Deck but currently lacks controller support (trackpad and touch controls are usable). Initial impressions are positive.
Pinball FX Steam Deck Impressions
Pinball FX offers a robust PC port with extensive graphics options, including HDR support on Steam Deck. Gameplay is excellent across various tables. The free-to-play version is recommended for testing compatibility and sampling the game.
New Steam Deck Verified & Playable Games
Notable additions include Hookah Haze and OneShot: World Machine Edition (Verified), while Black Myth: Wukong remains Unsupported (despite playable performance).
