Path of Exile 2: A Comprehensive Guide to Ritual Endgame Events
Path of Exile 2's Atlas map features four major endgame events: Breaches, Expeditions, Delirium, and Rituals. This guide focuses on Rituals, a returning mechanic from previous PoE Leagues. We'll cover initiating Ritual events, key mechanics, the Ritual Passive Skill Tree, the Pinnacle boss (King in the Mists), and the unique Tribute and Favour reward system.
Identifying and Initiating Rituals
On the Atlas, Ritual Altar map nodes are marked with a red pentagram icon featuring a demonic face. A Ritual Precursor Tablet, slotted into a completed Lost Tower, guarantees a Ritual encounter on a chosen node.
Once in a Ritual map, several Altars will spawn. Each map features a shared random modifier affecting enemies or mechanics. Modifiers might include massive rat swarms or life-draining pools of blood.
To activate a Ritual, interact with an Altar after noting its modifiers. A large circle will illuminate around the Altar; remain within this zone to defeat all enemies. Leaving the circle prematurely ends the event and forfeits rewards. Completing all Rituals on a map marks it as complete.
Confronting the King in the Mists: The Pinnacle Boss
The 'An Audience With The King' currency item, obtained through Favours, unlocks a fight against the King in the Mists. This Pinnacle boss resides in The Crux Of Nothingness. Slot the currency into your Realmgate on the Atlas to access the fight.
The King in the Mists' mechanics mirror his campaign counterpart. Practice is available in Act 1 Cruel difficulty, in the Freythorn zone. Defeating him grants 2 Ritual Passive Skill points, a chance at unique PoE 2 items, powerful currencies, and Omen items.
Navigating the Ritual Passive Skill Tree
The Ritual Passive Skill Tree, accessed via the Atlas Passive Skill Tree (bottom right), enhances Ritual events. It offers nodes reducing Tribute requirements, improving rewards, and increasing unique currency drop chances.
The tree features eight Notable nodes and eight nodes increasing King in the Mists difficulty. Each King in the Mists victory grants 2 skill points, necessitating increased difficulty for each new Notable node.
Prioritize these Notable nodes: 'From The Mists', 'Spreading Darkness', and 'Ominous Portents' for increased rewards with minimal drawbacks. Then, focus on 'Tempting Offers' and 'He Approaches' for better Omen and 'An Audience With The King' chances.
Understanding the Tribute and Favour Reward System
Successful Rituals yield Tribute, a temporary currency exchanged for randomized Favours. More Altars completed equate to more Tribute and unlocked Favours. Initially, Favours offer Magic items or low-level currencies; later, Rare gear and high-tier currencies become available. 'An Audience With The King' is exclusively a Favour reward.
Omens: Powerful Consumable Items
Omens are powerful consumable items that can significantly enhance the effects of other currency items. They are highly sought-after for crafting. Examples include Omens affecting Annulment and Alchemy Orbs. Consider trading less desirable Omens for valuable currencies.
Additional Rewards
Beyond Tribute and Favours, Ritual enemies drop high-tier currencies (Exalted Orbs, Vaal Orbs, etc.). The King in the Mists has a chance to drop Uniques from a pool exclusive to the Ritual event.
