Resident Evil 4 Remake Sales Surpass 9 Million

Capcom's Resident Evil 4 remake has achieved phenomenal success, recently surpassing 9 million copies sold since its March 2023 launch. This milestone builds on the game's already impressive sales trajectory, having recently hit the 8 million mark. The February 2023 release of the Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition and a late 2023 iOS release likely contributed significantly to these impressive numbers.

The remake's popularity isn't surprising, given the original game's iconic status. Following Leon S. Kennedy's mission to rescue the President's daughter, Ashley Graham, from a sinister cult, the remake notably shifted the gameplay towards action, a departure from the series' survival horror origins.

Capcom's official CapcomDev1 Twitter account celebrated the achievement with celebratory artwork featuring Ada, Krauser, Saddler, Salazar, and Bitores Mendez. A recent update further boosted the game's performance, particularly for PS5 Pro users.

A Record-Breaking Success

According to Alex Aniel, author of the Resident Evil fan book Itchy, Tasty: An Unofficial History of Resident Evil, Resident Evil 4's sales are the fastest in the franchise's history. This is particularly noteworthy when compared to Resident Evil Village, which reached only 500,000 copies sold by its eighth quarter.

Anticipation for Future Remakes

The success of Resident Evil 4 fuels fan speculation about Capcom's next move. A Resident Evil 5 remake is highly anticipated, with the releases of the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes being just over a year apart. However, other titles like Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil CODE: Veronica, both crucial to the overall storyline, are also strong contenders for a modern update. Naturally, the announcement of Resident Evil 9 would also be met with great enthusiasm.
