PS5 Pro Was The Talk Of The Town During Gamescom 2023Various Developers Make Plans for Alleged PS5 Pro Release
Fan theories about the highly anticipated PlayStation 5 Pro have been swirling throughout 2024, fueled by a series of alleged leaks earlier this year. However, the buzz intensified during Gamescom 2024, where developers began discussing the upcoming console more openly. Some have even delayed their game releases to align with the PS5 Pro's launch, as reported by Alessio Palumbo of Wccftech.
Palumbo shared an intriguing detail: "Without even being prodded by me, a developer who preferred to remain anonymous mentioned they had received the specs for the PS5 Pro and were confident that Unreal Engine 5 would perform significantly better on the new hardware compared to the regular PlayStation 5."
This revelation echoes a recent report from the Italian gaming site Multiplayer, which mentioned in a live stream that a developer had postponed their game’s release to match the rumored PS5 Pro launch. Palumbo further commented, "Considering the information shared by Multiplayer, I'm confident this isn't the same developer. Additionally, the studio I spoke with isn't a major one, suggesting that a wide range of game developers already have access to the PS5 Pro's specifications."
PS5 Pro Releasing Soon, Analyst Says
Adding weight to Palumbo’s suspicions and the insights shared by developers at Gamescom 2024, analyst William R. Aguilar hinted on X earlier in July that Sony is likely to announce the PS5 Pro later this year. Aguilar speculated that this announcement might come during the unconfirmed State of Play in September 2024, suggesting that Sony will need to make its move soon to avoid cannibalizing sales of the current PS5.
This timeline would be consistent with the PlayStation 4 Pro’s release strategy in 2016, where the console was announced on September 7 and hit the market just two months later on November 10. Palumbo pointed out that if Sony follows a similar pattern, "it is reasonable to assume an official announcement is near."
