Will Wright, creator of The Sims, recently unveiled more details about his new AI-powered life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream with BreakthroughT1D. This innovative game, first announced in 2018, focuses on creating interactive memories.
A Deep Dive into Personal Experiences
Following a "not-a-trailer-trailer" released last month by Gallium Studio, Wright provided a more comprehensive look at Proxi's core mechanics. The game allows players to input personal memories as text, which are then transformed into animated scenes within a unique 3D environment called the "mind world."
This mind world is a visually striking landscape of hexagons. Each memory, referred to as a "mem," is added to this world, shaping and expanding the player's personal digital space. As more mems are added, the game's AI learns and refines its representation of the player's life.
The mind world also populates with "Proxies," digital representations of friends and family, creating a rich tapestry of interconnected memories. Players can arrange these mems chronologically and link them to specific Proxies, providing context and relationships within the player's personal narrative. Remarkably, these Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds, such as Minecraft and Roblox.
Wright emphasized the game's goal: to create "magical connections with memories and bring them to life." He highlighted his desire for a deeply personal experience, explaining his design philosophy: "I found myself getting continuously closer and closer to the player. Kind of a saying I've lived by, which is that no game designer has ever gone wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players." He added with a laugh, "It goes to figure that the more I can make a game about you, the more you'll like it."
Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's official website, with platform announcements expected soon.
