Pokémon Fans Discover “Industrial CT Scanning Unopened Pokémon Cards” Promo VideoYour Pokémon Guessing Skills Will Now Be “Highly Sought After”
Following recent reports of a company offering to reveal the contents of unopened Pokémon trading card packs, Pokémon fans have taken to social media to express their thoughts on a "crazy" service targeting trading card enthusiasts. For approximately seventy bucks, Industrial Inspection and Consulting (IIC) claims it can reveal which Pokémon are inside certain card packs without opening them.Last month, IIC shared a YouTube promo video demonstrating a CT scanner capable of revealing the contents of unopened Pokémon packs, and in turn, the identity of the Pokémon on the card. This service sparked conversation among Pokémon fans and trading card enthusiasts regarding the impact on the Pokémon cards market.
Rare Pokémon cards' market values have skyrocketed, with some reaching hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars today. Fans often go to great lengths to obtain the rarest cards, and designer-signed Pokémon trading cards are particularly coveted. Earlier this year, a prominent Pokémon card illustrator was reported to have experienced constant stalking and harassment by card scalpers, due to the demand for these trading cards.
Investing in Pokémon cards has become somewhat of a significant niche business, with many hoping to find the most valuable cards that will appreciate over time.
Some Pokémon fans and traders said they see potential advantages in scanning Pokémon card packs prior to opening them. Others on the company's YouTube video's page commented feeling "threatened" or "disgusted" by this service. They worry it could undermine the integrity of the trading market, as well as potentially inflate it, while others remained skeptical and disagreed.
Meanwhile, one fan humorously remarked that, finally, their "skills at who's that pokemon are going to be highly sought after!"
