by Dylan Mar 12,2025

Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket players are discovering delightful hidden details in the game's card art, connecting them to the classic Game Boy games. The excitement began when Reddit user asch_win noticed that the Spearow card features landmarks resembling Celadon City Department Store and Route 16 from Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. The card's imagery perfectly mirrors the in-game location where Spearow can be caught.

This discovery sparked a community-wide investigation, with user jteede uncovering further connections. A full-art Diglett card appears to be set near Vermillion City, while a Haunter card is positioned next to Lavender Town's iconic tower. asch_win also identified references in several Supporter cards, further highlighting the game's attention to detail.

While many card illustrations depict Pokémon in fantastical settings, some directly reference locations and events from the main series games. Even certain Pikachu cards can be recognized as real-world collectible cards. Others, however, are unique to Pokémon TCG Pocket, making these Easter eggs all the more rewarding to discover.

The community is actively searching for more hidden references. Recent discoveries include the S.S. Anne on a Gyarados full-art card, and a storyline connecting Oddish, Venonat, and Bellsprout cards to the seaside Snorlax encounter in FireRed and LeafGreen.

Since its October release, Pokémon TCG Pocket has received one additional booster expansion, Mythical Island, bringing the total to four. More expansions are anticipated, along with additional cards through Wonder Pick Events and updates. As Creatures Inc. and DeNA continue to add cards, players are eagerly awaiting further discoveries.

Meanwhile, players can participate in the current Wonder Pick event featuring Charmander and Squirtle, and explore the ongoing debate about whether pack choice affects card rarity.
