Obsidian Entertainment CEO Feargus Urquhart recently provided a positive update on the development of The Outer Worlds 2, assuring fans that progress is strong despite past hurdles. This follows news about their other highly anticipated title, Avowed.
Obsidian's Confidence in Upcoming Releases
In a recent YouTube interview with Limit Break Network, Urquhart confirmed that *The Outer Worlds 2* development is proceeding smoothly. He praised the dedicated team, many of whom worked on the original title, highlighting their expertise and commitment.Urquhart candidly addressed the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic and post-Microsoft acquisition. Simultaneous development of multiple projects, including Grounded and Pentiment, significantly taxed the studio's resources. He acknowledged a period of intense pressure, even mentioning internal discussions about potentially halting The Outer Worlds 2 to focus solely on Avowed. However, Obsidian persevered, ultimately continuing development across all titles.
"We were juggling acquisitions, the pandemic, finishing Outer Worlds and its DLC, pushing forward Avowed, restarting Outer Worlds 2, and managing Grounded and Pentiment simultaneously," Urquhart recalled.
The decision to maintain momentum across all projects proved fruitful. Urquhart confirmed that Grounded and Pentiment were both successful, Avowed is looking excellent, and The Outer Worlds 2 is shaping up to be "incredible." While specific game details remain undisclosed, the recent delay of Avowed to 2025 suggests potential timeline adjustments for other projects.
Despite the lack of recent updates since the 2021 announcement, Urquhart acknowledged the possibility of a launch delay for The Outer Worlds 2, mirroring the situation with Avowed. However, he emphasized Obsidian's commitment to delivering high-quality games. "We'll deliver all these games," he stated. "Will they meet the initial timelines? Probably not, but we're on track, and our recent successes prove that." Both titles are slated for release on PC and Xbox Series S/X.
