Marvel Rivals Rank Reset Mid-Season Proves Too Controversial, Prompting Reversal

Marvel Rivals has reversed its decision on mid-season player rank resets following significant player feedback. Read on to learn more about the changes and upcoming developments.

Marvel Rivals Reverses Mid-Season Rank Reset Plan

Dev Talk 11: Seasonal Rank Adjustments Revised

Marvel Rivals has retracted its plan for mid-season rank resets announced in Dev Talk 10. The official Marvel Rivals Twitter (X) account issued a revised update, addressing considerable player backlash.

Dev Talk 10 proposed a system where players would drop four divisions mid-season, a change met with criticism from the community. Players felt this system was discouraging, particularly for those actively climbing the ranks, especially given the proposed 45-day (half-season) reset frequency.

Dev Talk 11 clarifies that there will be no mid-season rank reset. Players will retain their end-of-first-half season ranks and scores. However, the end-of-season rank reset remains, with players dropping six divisions.

Human Torch, The Thing, and Other Updates Still Coming

Despite the reversal on the mid-season reset, other updates are proceeding as planned. The release of Human Torch and The Thing, expanding the hero roster to 39, is still on track. NetEase Games previously stated a commitment to releasing two new playable characters per three-month season.

Rewards for players reaching Gold rank and above remain unchanged. Players achieving Gold rank will receive a free Invisible Woman costume, while Grandmaster and above will receive Crests of Honor. Additional rewards, including another free costume and Crests of Honor (for Grandmaster and above), will be awarded at the end of the season for reaching Gold rank.

Balance adjustments were also previously announced and are still planned for after the mid-season update, though specifics are yet to be revealed.

Marvel Rivals Community Response and Engagement

The developers emphasized their commitment to community feedback, stating: "We strive to make Marvel Rivals the best game it can be, and the community is the driving force behind this mission! [...] Your engagement and support mean the world to us, and we're excited to continue this journey together!"
